A short History of G&S Probus Club
The Club was founded in December 1976 by Brigadier J M Leese, P F Skottowe & C E Denham
The inaugural meeting was held at Ye Miller of Mansfield Hotel on 6th December 1976 at which it was decided to:
The Secretary was G. E A Rice
The Treasurer was C E Denham
Committee members were: Colonel Fawcet, S A Gregory & JHK Leanne

- Meet approximately once a month.
- Hold an annual luncheon or dinner
- Have outings to places of interest
- To invite wives to some events
- Be non sectarian & non political
- Have an annual membership fee of £1

In the first few months the membership grew rapidly from 31 in February to 48 by November 1977
The committee decided to cap the number of members at 50 in May 1977
Meetings continued at Ye Miller of Mansfield until January 1982 when there was a falling out with Peter Bryan of The Miller resulting in the AGM on 6th January being held at The Queens Arms. The meeting on 3rd February 1982 was also held at The Queens Arms.
The club moved to The Bull at Streatley in March 1982 and remained there until the 98th meeting on 1st October 1986.
The Bull was to have major alterations making the room unsuitable for future meetings.
There were no lunches served after the meetings at this time.
The 99th meeting was held at Goring & Streatley Golf Club on 18th November 1986.
The club has met there ever since - that is until COVID-19 struck in March 2020.

- July 2000 - Goring Gap Probus Club formally founded releasing 11 from G&S Probus waiting list
- June 2001 - First edition of Probity published
- November 2002 - Monthly Club Lunches were introduced
